Beautiful original watercolour on paper by Maurice Le Nestour (1929-2014), painter and former chief decorator of the Paris Opera. Entitled Breton Landscape, this work created in August 1994 depicts a coastal landscape with soft and luminous tones. The artist subtly plays with shades of blue, grey, and ochre to create a peaceful and delicate atmosphere. Signed and dated "LE NESTOUR AOÛT 94" at the bottom right. Maurice Le Nestour was a French painter and decorator who dedicated over forty years of his career to the Paris Opera, from 1946 to 1989. Appointed chief decorator in 1971 and then technical advisor for decoration in 1984, he participated in prestigious productions, including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker. Alongside his work as a set designer, he practiced painting and watercolour, creating landscapes and scenes inspired particularly by the world of theatre and dance. In 2013, he donated his archives and set design projects to the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), where they are preserved at the Opera Museum Library.
