Louis XVI style mirror trumeau in partially gilded wood and lacquered in water green with pearl net decoration, rosettes and bouquets of flowers. The mirror is topped with a painting representing a gallant scene. HX l = 164 X l = 113 cm. Period late 19th century. What we think: a beautiful model which has the advantage of being in good condition, the gallant scene is charming, well painted and here too in very good condition. Did you know. Appearing in the 17th century, the antique trumeau was first used to be placed between two windows in order to increase the brightness of the room and to decorate it. From the 18th century, the trumeau became an essential object of the interior decoration of dining rooms, libraries and other living rooms. The painters and artists of the time almost all sculpted or painted works of art on this type of support. It is not uncommon to see trumeaux where the decorative elements are larger than the mirror itself.
