Rare carved and gilded wood mirror – france, late 18th century – louis XVI period magnificent antique mirror in finely carved and gilded wood, dating from the late 18th century, during the reign of louis XVI. This beautiful period object features an openwork pediment with a rich decoration of stylized acanthus leaves and florets, typical of french neoclassical elegance. The frame, with slightly animated contours, is entirely carved with foliate, pearled and interlaced motifs, in remarkable craftsmanship. The old and period gilding has been patinated by time and retains a beautiful shine and contributes to the authentic charm of the piece. The mirror glass is not from the period. It was probably changed in the 1950s. It has some pitting in the tin, testimony to its age. The reverse had, when I bought it at an auction in versailles, an unsightly tape that held the back of the frame. I restored it and mounted it with pages from a 19th century book. Note that this mirror has been certified and appraised by a versailles auctioneer from the late 18th century. Thus, the whole is in carved wood and does not have stucco (used from the 19th century) 📐 dimensions: total height: 46.5 cm width: 27.3 cm depth: approximately 6 cm weight of 1, 764 grams 📅 period: late 18th century - circa 1780 🏛 style: louis XVI 🇫🇷 origin: france 🖐 condition: very good general condition for a mirror from this period. Minor wear and missing parts to the gilding, some chips and slight cracks in the wood visible in the photos, slightly pitted vintage mirror. Rare and decorative piece, ideal for a classic decoration, castle, chic country or a refined french atmosphere. Very careful and tracked shipping.
