In this announcement, you will find a powerful large-scale composition by Serbian painter Zoran Vuković, created in 1991 and titled Košutnjak – Autumn, referencing the wooded area of Belgrade that served as its starting point. Rather than directly depicting the landscape, Vuković transforms it into a dense and vibrant field of colour and gestures, characteristic of his mature abstract language. The surface is crafted through a complex layering of short, rhythmic brushstrokes, almost calligraphic, creating a vibrant and homogeneous composition without a fixed focal point. Warm reds and pinks dominate the upper part, evoking the intensity of autumn foliage, while the central mass of yellows and greens suggests compressed and luminous vegetation. Darker accents in blue and deep green anchor the composition, providing structure and depth. Vuković's work belongs to the lineage of late Yugoslav modernism, positioned between lyrical abstraction and gestural painting. His approach reflects a deep engagement with the landscape, not as representation but as a catalyst for pictorial exploration. The result is a dynamic interplay between structure and spontaneity, where the physical act of painting remains clearly visible. Zoran Vuković was an iconic figure in the Serbian art scene, serving as a professor and later dean at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. His works are held in numerous public and private collections, and he has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally.
