Round banded vase, Aldo Londi for Bitossi, Italy, 1970–1972

Round vase with a small flared neck, attributed to Aldo Londi from the "Fasce Colorate" series for the Bitossi factory in Montelupo Fiorentino. The body is finished in a matte olive green, over which horizontal bands are applied: bright orange, milky white, mustard yellow, glossy black, and fine aubergine stripes. The contrast between the matte and glossy glazes gives the piece a lot of depth. Viewed from above, it forms a true graphic target. A beautiful example of Bitossi's chromatic language in the 1960s–1970s, balancing geometric rigor with warm colours. Perfect on its own on a shelf or console, or with a single stem. Marking. No visible mark. Remnants of an old paper label under the base. Stylistic attribution. Dimensions. Height: 18 cm – Diameter: 18 cm. Condition. Good vintage condition. A chip in the glaze at the bottom of the body, near the foot, exposing the terracotta. Remnants of label glue under the base. A few small firing irregularities on the neck, original. No cracks.
