A spectacular 1960s Swedish rya rug and one of the finest colour field examples available. The entire pile surface transitions through a complete sunset spectrum: deep violet and hot pink at one end, through saturated crimson red, into vivid orange and golden amber at the other. Pure colour, pure texture, pure light. The long, loose rya pile—each tuft a hand-twisted bundle of multiple colours—creates optical colour blending that shifts as the light changes throughout the day. No two tufts are identical. It resembles a Rothko painting in wool. A remarkable provenance detail: the original spare yarn bundles—small skeins in every colour of the palette—survive intact, tucked into the pile. This is proof of careful preservation and a physical record of the original colours. Works equally well as a floor rug or wall hanging—hung vertically, the long pile creates extraordinary texture and shadow. At 150 × 220 cm, it anchors a living room or bedroom with ease. Origin: Sweden, 1960s. Material: Long wool pile (multi-strand rya tufts) on linen/cotton foundation. Technique: Hand-knotted rya. Condition: Good vintage—pile full and dense; colours vivid; original yarn bundles intact. Display: Floor or wall—equally stunning in both.
