Modernist coffee service, Peter & Denise Orlando, Vallauris, 1950

This sculptural coffee set is the work of the French-American couple Peter and Denise Orlando, major figures in post-war ceramics. A rare set, emblematic of their modernist aesthetic: organic forms, taut lines and abstract graphics. Set consisting of 4 cups, 4 saucers and 1 milk jug. Matte white glazed stoneware with abstract black, orange and ochre decoration. The sculpted handles and asymmetrical shapes are typical of the Orlando approach. Each piece is unique, decorated by hand.
