Oil on canvas mounted on a stretcher, signed lower right "c. Basset". Charles-louis basset (born in 1948) is a listed French painter, renowned for his Parisian scenes done with a knife. Here, he captures the winter atmosphere of Montmartre / Moulin Rouge: elegant silhouettes walking on a snowy road, facades sketched in large turquoise and cream flat tints, and the famous mill standing out against a milky sky. The material is generous; the impasto creates a real relief that captures the light. Colors & technique. Palette: shades of blue, water green and white, highlights of ochre and black. Execution: knife work, nervous touches, typical of the artist. Original satin varnish. Frame. Sumptuous molded and gilded wooden frame (Louis XV style), decorated with acanthus leaves and shells. Canvas stretched on beige marie-louise, protected by an interior gilded rod. Condition. Very good overall condition: slight patina on the frame, tiny chips without affecting the reading of the work. Sound canvas and fresh colors. Small chip of 3mm on the painting. Dimensions with frame: 33x38cm. Dimensions of the canvas: 25x20cm.
