Murano millefiori vase circa 1950

Lovely decorative Murano vase with colored murrines. This eclectic vase has a base covered with small colored particles (semi-fused silver flakes on a black background). Multi-layered, the coating is transparent with the inclusion of murrines in the shape of shells and flowers. This ancient Roman glassmaking technique consists of fusing a bundle of glass rods. The stem thus formed is extracted and sliced after cooling. Each of these slices is called a "murrine". This very technical vase requires the mastery of an experienced master glassmaker.
