Maurice TIRMARCHE (1909-1978) Born on 30 May 1909 in Clermont-Ferrand (63). His life is shrouded in mystery; he passed away on 20 April 1978 in Courbevoie (92) at the age of 68 (act no. 233). A self-taught painter, he began with fantastic and surrealist expression before moving towards Op Art, mingling with the legends of this movement, such as Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely. He exhibited between 1962 and 1972 in Rouen, at the Galerie Actuel in Toulouse, Galerie Davidson in Tours, Galerie Argos in Nantes, etc. The CNAC acquired one of his works in 1972, as did the national contemporary art fund (Paris), a painting titled: The Visitors (Inventory No. 31002). The preface writer for his exhibitions, Maurice SERULLAZ (1914-1997), Chief Curator at the Louvre Museum, notably said of his works: "The fantastic is the realm of his painting, all of phantasmagoria and dream. This leads to a grand cosmic universe... in a mirage of harmonious colours." His works are very rare on the art market; despite their rarity, their value is very high, a quality artist +++. Silkscreen signed by Tirmarche and numbered 180/300. A deep and intense blue with various shades makes it a unique and rare piece. It will resonate beautifully on your walls.
