Antique Chinese bamboo storage chest

Beautiful antique Chinese storage chest made of woven bamboo and rattan, dating from around 1880-1890. This spacious chest is handmade from woven bamboo strips and was originally used for storing clothing or household linen. Thanks to the handles on both sides, the chest could also have been used as an early travel trunk. The construction is reinforced with split bamboo at the bottom, inside the lid, and on the corners. The original metal fittings give this authentic Chinese chest a sturdy and characterful appearance.
