Montmartre/KUB Oil on panel. Signed upper left. 27 X 22 cm. Framed. Very good condition. Artist listed on Artprice. René Marie is a French sculptor and painter. He was deeply influenced by his apprenticeship in Aristide Maillol's studio. In 1945, he exhibited a Torso of a Woman, a Fish, and a Head at the Salon des Surindépendants. Settling in Paris during the 1950s and 60s, René Marie found his artistic home in the studio at 14 rue du Saint-Gothard, nestled in the 14th arrondissement. This studio was a true hub of creativity, attracting renowned artists such as Chaime Soutine, Paul Gauguin, and Amedeo Modigliani. René Marie chose to settle in England in the late 1960s where he continued his work with the same passion and determination until his death in 1973 (sources Bénézit).
