“All art is an imitation of nature.” Hello. I am offering an authentic work from the 19th century, particularly representative of the great Barbizon painters, who became true admirers and accomplices of nature. The artistic quality of this signed work, dating from around 1880, is very close to those of Théodore Rousseau or Jean-Baptiste Corot. We find in this oil on canvas, a symbol often represented in “Barbizonian” landscapes, that of a small character on a path surrounded by the great space of nature, thus expressing that man is very insignificant compared to the immensity of nature. It follows that man must respect nature. This naturalist thought, very innovative for the time, is even stronger today. We believe we are looking at nature, but it is nature that is looking at us and permeating us. Frame dimensions: 30 cm X 38.5 cm. Work dimensions: 24.5 cm X 33 cm. Estimate from a Catawiki auctioneer = between 300 and 400 euros (see photo). This oil on canvas, which is perhaps 150 years old, is in perfect condition. It was restored, then mounted, re-stretched, and completely cleaned by a professional. Then, a "Winsor and Newton" brand anti-UV satin varnish was applied. On an old molded solid oak frame, which could be the original, a special fine arts aging varnish was applied. This frame has been restored. This authentic work, dating from around 1880, is signed Raoul. There are several painters from this period with this surname. The whole is ready to be hung for a journey through time so that everyone remembers the proper respect for nature.
