Art Nouveau platter combining a glazed ceramic insert with an ornamental metal frame. This piece dates from the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, representing the distinctive aesthetic of the era when decorative arts drew heavily from organic forms and botanical motifs. The construction brings together two complementary elements: an oval ceramic dish set within an openwork metal surround. The ceramic insert features a warm yellow-to-gold glaze that lends the piece a luminous, elegant character. The metal frame creates a decorative cradle with profiled handles on either side, its ornamental detailing emphasising the Art Nouveau heritage. The proportions, an elongated oval measuring thirty-eight centimetres in width, suggest this was intended for display and formal presentation. Art Nouveau emerged across Europe in the final decade of the nineteenth century, bringing a revolution to the decorative arts. Designers moved away from historical revivalism toward new forms inspired by nature: sinuous lines, asymmetrical compositions and stylised floral patterns. Ceramics and metalwork became favoured mediums for Art Nouveau craftsmen, who frequently combined different materials within a single object, creating pieces that blurred the boundary between functional ware and decorative art. This platter serves equally well as an interior accent or a functional serving piece. Its height of just under fifteen centimetres and oval form make it suitable for presenting fruit, bread or decorative arrangements on a dining table, sideboard or console. Condition is good with no significant flaws. The piece retains its full functionality and aesthetic appeal.
