Stamped with: "gien – france" Les faïenceries de gien is a fine earthenware manufacturing company located in the eponymous town in the centre-val de loire region, founded by thomas edme hulmen (known as hall) in 1821. Among the many earthenware factories born in the nineteenth century, that of gien is one of the most renowned and the most important in europe. The factory excelled in the art of imitation, and made copies of pieces from the past at an affordable price. Unique pieces were also created with the help of talented artists who illustrated new decorations or were inspired by those of past centuries (seventeenth and eighteenth centuries) or those of other european and far eastern earthenware factories.
