His is a rare version of the u - 453 sideboard with yellow, black and white formica drawers. This particular piece was produced in 1962 by interier praha company in former czechoslovakia. The mid century modern sideboard in brown oak wood was designed by celebrated czech furniture designer jiri jiroutek. It was part of the popular u collection, which also included other interior pieces such as coffee tables, sofas or cabinets. This piece perfectly embodies the so-called brussels style, which is an unique czech modification of the mid century modern style. The style was named after the expo 1958 in brussels, where czechoslovakia won 13 main prizes including one in the furniture category. These u - 453 sideboards were produced in a few different versions - in two sizes and various drawers colours. This yellow version is more rare as it was produced in smaller quantities than the most selling model with pink and black drawers. Also what makes this piece unique is the fact that it has got a black formica handle in the middle of the draw with a yellow or white formica on the top and bottom, instead of the more common design solution which has the handle to the top side of the drawer. Over the years these sideboards became very desirable and collectible pieces as they perfectly represent jiroutek's talent to design furniture that is fully practical, popular and iconic. The sideboard is in great vintage condition. There is some minor wear and tear on the wooden surface and on the formica drawers acquired over the years.
