An essential icon of the flea market and table design from the 70s/80s, here is a superb zoomorphic terrine in the shape of a Mallard duck, bearing the famous signature of Michel Caugant. Son of a Breton charcutier-caterer, Michel Caugant made his mark in the history of table arts by creating these earthenware containers originally intended to present his luxury pâtés, which have now become highly sought-after collector's items. This two-part piece is entirely hand-painted. The finesse of its details is appreciated: the glossy green duck head, the yellow beak, the speckled russet breast, and the stylised black, white, and brown graphic patterns that adorn the plumage of its wings. Under the base, the authentic printed inscription can be found: "This piece in genuine earthenware has been entirely handmade. I offer it to you exclusively. Michel Caugant." Ideal on a sideboard for a characterful service during a festive meal, or repurposed as a poetic catch-all in an entrance hall. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The earthenware is perfectly shiny, sound, and clean. No cracks, chips, or hairline fractures to report, which is remarkable for these fragile pieces. The black glazed interior is as good as new.
