1 Identification. Manufacturer Gustave de Bryun, Fives, Lille, France. Model 07079, listed in the manufacturer's catalogue around 1900. Style: Art Nouveau, naturalistic. Dating: 1890-1910. 2 Technical analysis. Body and texture: petrified wood effect, high-precision impressionist slip work, imitation of ancient oak bark; the vertical striations and knots of the wood are moulded in relief. Terracotta: fine earthenware paste of orange brick colour, local clay from the north. Cabochons of fine gold: presence of raised beads and discs enhanced with gold. These enhancements are the distinctive sign of special or exhibition series at de Bryun. Exterior glazing: brown tone stimulating the natural patina of wood. Neck: undulating; the lip of the vase is not a straight circle but features a sculpted wave movement. Interior: crumpled orange with a relief of folds and drapery. Dimensions: 30 cm. 3 Marking and authenticity. Emblem at the base: relief seal of a stylised marine anchor, emblem of the manufacturer with the intertwined monogram dB. Numbering: 07079; the prefix 07 designates large, high-quality moulds of technical complexity.
