Rare Frank F. Scott for F. Wrighton & Sons Desk/ Dressing Table / Console Desk – Late 1950s A truly exceptional and rare late-1950s desk designed by Frank F. Scott for the renowned British manufacturer F. Wrighton & Sons.An exceptionally stylish example of British Mid-Century Modern furniture, this sophisticated piece represents a much more exclusive and design-led side of Wrighton's production. While F. Wrighton & Sons became internationally recognised for their pioneering fitted kitchens, during the late 1950s the company also produced a very small number of ambitious, high-end freestanding furniture designs influenced by the emerging Scandinavian and Danish Modern aesthetic. Frank F. Scott was an elusive but highly talented in-house designer working for Wrighton during this period. His designs were distinguished by their architectural simplicity, innovative use of materials and beautifully considered detailing. This particular floating-glass design was first exhibited in 1958 and was subsequently featured prominently in The Cabinet Maker, one of the leading British furniture trade journals of the era. The design is wonderfully sophisticated, combining a sleek floating appearance with beautifully crafted storage. The upper drawers feature distinctive reeded and grooved fronts, creating a subtle textural contrast, while the lower drawers are finished in rich, warm teak, highlighting the natural beauty of the timber. The cabinet is arranged with two drawers to each side, providing generous and beautifully organised storage while maintaining the exceptionally clean and balanced appearance of the design. The glass is secured with round in each corner bronze flat top screws In good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with a piece from the 1960s. Unfortunately there is chip to the glass underneath on the side as can be seen on the photo but on the top not noticeable, this reflects on the price. L 127cm x D 48,5cm x H 75cm
