Polish graphic artist roman cieslewicz (1930-1996) created the poster for the 1972 festival du marais. The festival du marais was created in 1962 by engineer michel raude to save the marais, which was threatened with destruction. Inspired by the avignon festival, it offers live shows in the private hotels of the district in order to make known this heritage. Roman cieslewicz, an essential graphic designer of the second half of the 20th century, is called upon to create the visual. Trained at the fine arts of krakow, he emigrated to paris in 1963 with his wife, the sculptor alina szapocznikow. Roman cieslewicz worked for magazines such as elle or vogue, and produced numerous posters for various events. He is best known for his posters made for the centre pompidou from 1978 to 1983 with a rigorous typographical composition, drawing heavily on his constructivist references in the text-image relationship. As can already be seen in the festival du marais poster, the effectiveness of the visual message comes from a dynamic layout where the emphasis is given to geometric shapes and pure flat color.
