Curved rattan shelf — 173 cm

Curved rattan shelf. France or Italy, second half of the 20th century. Open shelf in natural rattan, with a full arch top highlighted by a double hoop. The structure rests on five vertical posts connected by a play of arcs and interlaced semi-circles, forming a perforated register throughout its height. Four dark-stained wooden shelves are evenly distributed between the posts, providing multiple levels for storage or display. A metal ring fixed at the top of the structure allows for the suspension of the piece. In curved bamboo-style rattan, characteristic of reimagined beach and colonial furniture from the second half of the 20th century. The full arch pediment and the play of repeated curves evoke the decorative vocabulary of the open-shelf, highly sought after in interior furnishings of the 1960s-1970s for its light and summery character. The steam-bending technique, combined with visible fine rattan bindings at the joints, attests to artisanal craftsmanship. Height: 173 cm. Width: 66 cm. Depth: 29 cm. Beautiful amber patina of the rattan, uniform across the entire structure. Some old bindings slightly loosened at the junction points of the pediment, without fragility to the overall stability. Signs of normal use on the shelves.
