It is with a great sigh that I part with my Dosemealti Turkish gallery rug. Hand-knotted points. Estimated period 1950s-60s, possibly earlier. Wool on wool, dimensions 72x220 cm. Pile height approximately 0.8 cm. Cleaned and restored. This type of rug was produced by nomads from Anatolia, settled in the hinterland of Antalya, on the Aegean coast of Turkey. Döşemealtı is the locality in this hinterland that gave its name to this marvel. Döşemealtı rugs are known for their bright blue-red-green colours. This cream-brown-rust example offered here is rare, even unique. The 9 central medallions are also decorative elements rarely found in this type of rug. The rug has been freshly hand-washed by a professional artisan, Best Craftsman of France 2011. The fringes have also been secured with end stitches on both sides. Invoices available upon request.
