Important Italian sideboard designed by Angelo Mazzola, also known as Al Martin, and produced by Salpol in the 1980s. The piece represents one of the most refined examples of Salpol production, an Italian company renowned for its work with precious materials and high-level decorative surfaces, often associated with the tradition of parchment and the material research typical of Italian luxury design in the second half of the twentieth century. The entire structure of the piece is covered in goat parchment, handcrafted and hand-polished. The surface reveals the natural chromatic variations, organic veining, and subtle marbling typical of this extraordinary material, elements that make each piece unique. The parchment gives the cabinet a soft and deep luminosity, capable of slightly changing tone depending on the light. The most distinctive element of the piece is represented by the front panels of the doors, covered in Missoni fabric. The iconic textile features a refined diagonal geometric pattern in shades of beige, brown, and grey, creating a sophisticated contrast with the uniform and luminous surface of the parchment. This combination of materials perfectly expresses the dialogue between craftsmanship, fashion, and design that characterizes some of the most sought-after Italian productions of the 1980s. The structure is defined by a very elegant architectural design: the top features rounded and slightly protruding edges, while the vertical uprights, also covered in parchment, articulate the façade with a precise and monumental rhythm. The central doors open to reveal a warm wooden interior with shelves, designed to offer functionality and storage capacity without compromising the elegance of the piece. The linear base, integrated into the structure, visually lifts the sideboard from the floor, giving it lightness and proportion, while the metal details and glossy finishes contribute to reinforcing the sophisticated character of the whole. Inside, the manufacturer’s mark is present. This piece represents a perfect example of Italian design from the 1980s, in which material experimentation, artisanal excellence, and the meeting of creative disciplines, from design to fashion, give life to objects of great character and strong scenic presence. This is an extremely rare and decorative sideboard, capable of becoming the visual focal point of any sophisticated interior.
