Pair of walnut armchairs with crossbow backs and curved apron, arched legs stamped Mayeux. Louis XV period. Circa 1765. Louis François Mayeux was a cabinetmaker and joiner who was admitted to the Master class on July 29, 1757. A student and then collaborator of Nicolas Quinibert Foliot (1706-1776), he left behind some very finely crafted Louis XV chairs. The stamp is hot-stamped under the seat and under the rear crossbar. These chairs are in excellent condition; they have been serviced in the workshop, cleaned, and waxed. The upholstery is new and trimmed with Lelièvre damask. H X W X D = 87 X 57 X 51 cm.
