White terracotta cubist lamp made in france by the primavera workshop for the printemps department store in the 1920s or 1930s. Like many pieces from this workshop, it bears no signature or visible mark. It represents an elephant with geometric lines and is covered with a wavy glaze, probably obtained by a wax technique to create this textural effect. Although the conical glass shade, which covers the bulb, harmonizes perfectly with the whole, it is not original. Originally, the lamp was equipped with a globe. It is likely that the current shade was replaced between the 1960s and 1980s, at the same time as the electrical cable (the latter was initially insulated with fabric). Condition: very good condition. Dimensions: 37 cm wide, 10 cm deep, 26 cm high. A beautiful example of french art deco, perfect for design lovers. Note: founded in 1912 by the printemps department store, the primavera workshop was dedicated to the production of decorative art objects, mixing traditional craftsmanship and modern influences. It allowed artists and designers of the time, such as jean dunand, edgar brandt or jacques adnet, to create unique pieces combining functionality and aesthetics. The workshop played an important role in the diffusion of the art deco style in france and internationally.
