Antique faience lamp attributed to Gien – Renaissance decoration

Elegant antique lamp base in polychrome faience, attributed to the Gien factory. Its generous spherical body, 21 cm in diameter, is entirely adorned with a superb Renaissance decor: winged figures, grotesques, scrolls, foliage, and ornamental friezes unfold in shades of blue, ochre yellow, green, and red on a white background. The slightly flared neck and base are highlighted with geometric friezes, while the patinated metal mount adds the charm of antique lighting. The decor and palette are characteristic of the Italian Renaissance repertoire developed by Gien. As the underside of the faience is concealed by the lamp fitting, we cannot verify the presence of a mark and prefer to present this piece as attributed to Gien. A lamp full of character, to which a beautiful contemporary lampshade in ecru linen or pleated fabric would give a spectacular look. Dimensions: H 30 × Ø 21 cm. Generally good antique condition, with signs of age and use visible in the photographs. Sold without lampshade. Old electrical wiring should be checked before use.
