Rare first edition vase 'Amazonia' by the Italian designer Gaetano Pesce for Fish Design NY. Made of soft polyurethane resin with three legs. Marked: Fish Design nr. 8. Beautiful condition. Dimensions: height 7.1 in. (18 cm), width 7.1 in. (18 cm), depth 5.9 inches (15 cm). Gaetano Pesce (1939, La Spezia, Italy) has become known for his radical 'anti' design and his experiments with new materials. In the sixties became famous with his Up-Series, chairs compressed and vacuum-packed in PVC wrappers, literally bounced up when unwrapped. In the 1980s he designed his furniture of polyurethane resin, such as the Green Street Chair and the Broadway Chair. This vase is also made of soft polyurethane resin. Studio Fish Design is born in New York Soho in 1995 out of an idea by Gaetano Pesce. Using colored and translucent resins, the artist creates a collection of vases that he produces through to 1999. Because of the manufactoring process, each piece is a unique original, marked with the stamp Fish Design and numbered. This is the early number 8. Pesce’s work is featured in over 30 permanent collections of the most important museums in the world, such as MoMa of New York and San Francisco, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Vitra Museum in Germany, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Pompidou Center and Musee des Arts Décoratifs of Louvre in Paris; he exhibits art in galleries world wide.
