“Jonte” stool designed by Gilbert Marklund in 1969 and produced in Sweden by Furusnickarn AB. Made of pine, it is characterized by broad side supports and a distinctive concave, shaped seat that gives the model its recognizable sculptural character. Designed in 1969 by Gilbert Marklund and produced by Furusnickarn AB, the “Jonte” stool is one of the Swedish designer’s most recognizable models. The pine structure is defined by two broad side supports extending above the height of the seat and a deeply shaped central element, with a concave profile that introduces an organic quality into the geometric construction. The model reflects a period in Swedish design when traditional woodworking was being reinterpreted through more essential forms and a particularly strong emphasis on material. In the “Jonte”, Marklund reduces the structure to a few substantial elements, allowing the grain of the pine and the sculptural shaping of the seat to play a central role in the design. This combination of robust construction, formal simplicity and organic modelling of the wood became one of the model’s defining characteristics. Good condition. It may show signs of age.
