Arriving in Paris in 1949, Sergio de Castro established himself as a multidisciplinary artist, moving from architecture to musical composition before devoting himself fully to painting. His vision of the studio, simultaneously a space for creation, withdrawal, and sociability, is at the heart of his work. "I will perhaps paint studios all my life, as others have painted self-portraits."
