Sinkiang Carpet - Khotan China

East turkestan carpets are those made in xinjiang (formerly called east turkestan), a province in northwestern china. These are hand-knotted carpets in chinese and turkmen colors and patterns. These carpets were made, among others, in the cities of kashgar (kaxgar), yarkand and khotan, but as it was in the merchant city of samarkand that westerners discovered these carpets, the ancient production was and still is often referred to as samarkand carpets (or samarkand carpets). Recent production (after 1945) is called sinkiang carpet or xinjiang carpet and consists of simple utilitarian carpets. Among these carpets, geometric patterns and classical chinese patterns are the most widespread. Dimensions: 450x70 cm. Status: good.
