This extremely rare, exquisite hanging lamp, Ju-Yon, is part of Ingo Maurer’s Uchiwa series, designed for Design M in 1974, which epitomises the dynamic and innovative essence of 1970s design. This model, named Ju-Yon, features fourteen delicate fans crafted from bamboo and rice paper, materials traditionally used in Japanese Uchiwa fans, lending the piece organic elegance. Each fan, connected in two rows with clamps to the central bamboo frame, creates an enchanting silhouette when illuminated. Light seeps gracefully through the several layers of rice paper, casting soft, diffused radiance, while the bamboo elements cast intriguing shadows, thus creating an immersive lighting experience. Due to the use of these delicate materials, many of these light sculptures have been damaged or lost over the years. Therefore, the ones remaining have become a unique find. This particular lamp is in excellent condition. The height of the lamp is adjustable with the three small ropes, with which you can also straighten the lamp's position when needed. These ropes have never been shortened and can have a height of 100 cm when desired. Maurer’s ‘Ju-Yon’ transcends mere functionality; it stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of Japanese heritage and German design ingenuity, offering any interior space a welcoming, ambient radiance and an unmistakable mid-century appeal.
