Murano vase from the 1950s, attributed to Flavio Poli, made using the Sommerso technique typical of the mid-century modern period in Venetian art glass. The thick glass body contains a set of layers: an inner amber-brown core is surrounded by luminous, transparent yellow, all encased in a clear, colourless shell. The faceted, geometric silhouette with multi-sided walls and elongated proportions reflects the era's fondness for sculptural forms, where light plays with colour and space. The surface has no additional decorations—just precisely shaped glass, polished to a mirror shine. The vase has no metal accents or other material admixtures; every detail testifies to masterful craftsmanship. Condition is very good: free from chips, cracks, or signs of use, the vase remains in its original, unrestored state. This object brings the atmosphere of the mid-20th century, when Venetian glass began to take forms inspired by both contemporary painting and modern architecture. Sommerso is not just layers of colour—it is the afterimage of sunny mornings over the lagoon and the polyphony of Italian design seeking dialogue between tradition and experiment. The transparent surface and saturated colour of the inner core remind us that every object can tell a story of light, shadow, and the shades of everyday life. The vase seems to speak the language of its era: light entering its interior reveals deep ambers and the shine of yellow, allowing the eye to wander deep into the glass as if in the heated air of an Italian summer. The Murano vase works best as a soloist on an oak console, marble top, or minimalist shelf with a simple line, where the play of light and colours remains undisturbed. It can be paired with a pure white wall or graphite accessories to accentuate the transparency and depth of the glass. Interiors in mid-century modern style, eclectic collector's displays, or modern spaces with single designer accents will highlight its timeless character. Good companions may be simple ceramic vessels or a sculptural candlestick from the 1950s, complementing the composition with a subtle rhythm of forms and materials.
