Oil on masonite by charles robin 1903-2003. L 40.5 X 33 cm. Titled on the back "la chapelle abaissee". Born in paris, georges robin studied with the classical and post-impressionist landscaper paul-michel dupuy. But before becoming the master of landscapes known today, georges charles robin learned his trade as a decorator, notably for the dinan casino in brittany. It was finally quite late, in 1948, that the painter received his first official honors as a landscaper, although he had participated in the salon des artistes français since the 1920s, as well as in the salon des paysagistes français. A few years later, he received the gold medal at the salon des artistes français and was classified hors concours until the end of his life, which represents the ultimate reward. A prolific artist until 1981, when he lost his sight, robin devoted his career to the simple landscapes of the french countryside and seaside. You will find no artifice, no surrealist light, no historical scenes placed in an imaginary landscape, but real places. In love with the dordogne and its waterways, the painter stayed in the department on many occasions during his travels that took him from finistère to the mediterranean coast, passing by the banks of the sèvre nantaise, the charente, the loing and the aumance. Source: ars pictura the painter died at the age of 100 in 2003.
