Hello. I am offering a very colourful oil on cardboard in perfect condition, signed by Jehann BERJONNEAU (1890-1966), depicting an unknown bridge winding through the city of Venice. This work features a beautiful balance of colours subtly arranged between the brightness of the stone facades, a bridge, and the reflections in the water. With its 435 bridges connecting 121 islands, whether ancient, modern, or without parapets, the Venetian bridges contribute to the exceptional and romantic identity of VENICE ("the Rialto Bridge", "the Constitution Bridge", also known as "Calatrava Bridge", "the Liberty Bridge", etc.). VENICE has always inspired great artists. In poetry, "the Bridge of Sighs" is often associated with the melancholy and fragile beauty of VENICE. Alfred de MUSSET, in his poem "VENICE", describes a silent and mysterious city with "its bridges and its streets, its mournful statues and its moving gulf that trembles in the wind". The poem by Nicolas MARTIN also evokes the melancholy of the city, where "a sigh, an eternal sigh fills the scented air with melancholic echoes". Similarly, Arnaud JONQUET describes VENICE as a "lotus flower with unreal hues, a fragile city resting on the water where the bridges, squares, and canals form an extraordinary mosaic". Frame dimensions: 45 cm x 37 cm. Artwork dimensions: 40 cm x 32 cm. This oil on cardboard, which is about a century old, is in perfect condition and has not undergone any restoration since its origin. The work has been cleaned, and a satin anti-UV varnish from WINSOR and NEWTON has been applied by a professional. A recent and modern frame has been resized and added; it is particularly robust and guaranteed to last over time (glued, nailed, and stapled). Influenced by the works of Jean-François MILLET, Camille COROT, and Gustave COURBET, Jehann BERJONNEAU (1890 - 1966) is a referenced and valued artist.
