Pair of Neoclassical Wall Lights with Two Arms in Brass and Copper
Each wall light is organised around a richly chiselled vertical shaft: a winged cherub in bust form is set within a medallion of textured foliage, topped with a copper thyrsus featuring delicate scrolls that contrast with the rosy hue of the brass, the whole culminating in a drop tied with a ribbon. Two curved arms of light extend from it, ending in moulded cups and sconces adorned with faux candles. The motif of the cherub, the thyrsus, and the tied ribbons belong to the neoclassical repertoire inherited from the Louis XVI style, here interpreted with virtuosity by French bronze workers of the 1950s, the two-tone play of brass and copper adding an extra refinement to the chiselling. Condition report: Good overall condition. Brass and copper with a beautiful patina, sharp and detailed chiselling, old faux candles. Electricity checked by an electrician. A delicate pair to frame a mirror, a fireplace, or a romantic headboard.
