Very beautiful lamp base in glazed stoneware made by Albert Jacques, a potter from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. This piece features an elegant slightly flattened spherical shape, topped with a small cylindrical neck with a flared lip. Its simple and balanced silhouette particularly highlights the work of the glazes. The glazing, with deep shades of purplish brown and purple, is animated by superb olive green and golden ochre drips. The variations in texture and firing effects bring a beautiful depth to the surface, in the tradition of artistic stoneware from Puisaye. Albert Jacques belongs to an old family of potters from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. In 1922, he took over the former pottery of sculptor and ceramist Paul Jeanneney, where he continued the tradition of high-fired stoneware. His son, Roger Jacques (1920-2001), would continue the family business, developing his own production of artistic stoneware. Albert Jacques is referenced in the book "Grès de Puisaye, de Jean Carriès à nos jours – Marques et signatures, " dedicated to the history of potters and ceramists in the region. A beautiful collectible piece, representative of the craftsmanship of the workshops in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye and particularly decorative due to the richness of its glazing. Dimensions: Height: 15.5 cm. Diameter: 15 cm. Condition: very good overall condition. Presence of a tiny chip at the neck, without affecting the aesthetics of the piece.
