Mid-Century Modern "Red Houses" Swedish Naïve Style Landscape Oil Painting, Framed

A large and delightful mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto canvas. This picturesque neighbourhood scene depicts a narrow street running through quaint and distinct red houses, set against a scenic landscape view of hills and mountains in the background. A little figure can be seen in the foreground of the painting, cycling through the village street. The artist has used very fine brushstrokes to create a smooth, even finish, imbuing the painting with a sense of playfulness and frankness. There is a sincerity to the painting’s simplicity, both in vision and in execution. It’s ‘naïve’ character captures what many modernists seek – to move away from what they see as the insincere sophistication of art created within the traditional system.
