Hans Agne Jacobsson (1919-2009) Brass and yellow tinted glass wall light. Model V212. Editions Markaryd. Scandinavian design from the 1960s, well documented. In working order (sold without bulb) Height: 27cm. Width: 15cm. Depth: 26cm. Good condition, wear on the brass (slight paint spots) *Particularly active during the 1950s and 1970s, the golden age of Scandinavian design, interior decorator and furniture manufacturer Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919-2009) is known for his softly glowing, non-glaring light fixtures, inspired by the “modern natural” approaches of Danish master Poul Henningsen and Finnish icon Alvar Aalto. Although less famous today than many mid-century lighting designers like Jo Hammerborg and Verner Panton, Hans-Agne Jakobsson created pendants, floor lamps, and desk lamps that demonstrate a penchant for various materials and forms as well as a deep understanding of light effects. Hans-Agne Jakobsson was born in Havdhem on the island of Gotland in Sweden in 1919. He apprenticed as a carpenter and continued his studies in Gothenburg until he graduated in architecture. He was employed by General Motors as an industrial designer and then worked as an assistant to Carl Malmsten (1888-1972) (one of the most prominent figures in Swedish design) and to Werner West (1890-1959). In 1951, Hans-Agne Jakobsson founded his eponymous manufacturing company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, sometimes referenced as AB Markaryd. Although he produced and designed several types of furniture, it is his light fixtures that receive particular international attention. Experimenting with a wide range of materials, including brass, iron, glass, fabric, and wood chips, Hans-Agne Jakobsson mastered the direction and colour of lighting. His designs are known for their invisible bulbs and continuous line ornamentation.
