Mid-Century asymmetrical buffet veneered in walnut and raised on angled legs, made in Czechoslovakia around 1960. A Mid-Century Modern piece that sits between a living room buffet and a compact storage unit, representative of post-war Czechoslovak industrial design in a fully modern interpretation. In Czechoslovakia and Poland during the 1950s and 1960s, large furniture manufacturers assimilated Scandinavian and Italian design language and adapted it for high-level technical mass production. Compact buffets like this one were conceived as versatile pieces for the living-dining room: a drop-down door for crockery and glassware, two side drawers for cutlery and table linen, all within a contained and elevated volume. It is constructed on a solid wood frame veneered in prominently grained walnut, with an asymmetrical front combining a vertical door on the left and two stacked drawers on the right. The handles are triangular solid wood, characteristic of the Czech workshop of the time and highly sought after today. The legs, made of solid beech, are angled and joined to the body with visible dowels. The top surface is finished with an elevated moulding that defines the silhouette. Details.
