Pair of large altar candlesticks in brass, of Vietnamese origin, dating from the 20th century. These pieces of fine stature feature turned shafts with undulating profiles, rhythmically accented by bulges and elegant transitions, resting on tiered circular bases ensuring excellent stability. The circular bowls, arranged according to traditional mounting (convex engraved side facing up), are adorned with fine concentric turned lines. This type of candlestick was intended for ritual use, particularly on domestic or religious altars. A comparable example, preserved at the Cernuschi Museum – Museum of Asian Arts of the City of Paris, illustrates the typology and use of this type of Vietnamese brass candlestick in the 20th century. The brass today exhibits a homogeneous ancient patina, with warm and golden tones, reflecting natural use and aging, without excessive restoration. ________________________________________ Technical details. • Typology: altar candlestick. • Origin: Vietnam. • Period: 20th century. • Material: brass. • Technique: turned brass. • Finish: natural ancient patina, unvarnished. ________________________________________ Dimensions. • Height: 39.5 cm (15.55 in) • Diameter of the bowl: approx. 20 cm (7.87 in) • Diameter of the base: approx. 14 cm (5.51 in) • Inner diameter (candle holder): approx. 4.5 cm (1.77 in) • Weight: 1.224 kg and 1.277 kg. ________________________________________ Condition.
