A finely crafted copper Baroque candlestick from the Napoleon III period. The twisted stem extends into a chased decoration of foliage and flowers, typical of the 19th-century taste for Rococo forms and ornaments inspired by the Louis XV style. Originally, the piece was likely silver-plated: traces of silver plating remain visible under the base, where two hallmarks are also discernible. The first depicts a square, compass, and star surrounding the letter B and the word DOUBLE; the second shows a crescent moon accompanied by the letter L. These marks suggest French, or possibly Franco-German, work from the mid-19th century. Very good overall condition. Note a small dent at the base and another at the top, discreet and barely visible when viewed from the back; see photos. Height: 32 cm. Base width: 13 cm. Hole diameter: 2.5 cm. Weight: 880 grams.
