How to describe this stool? Brutalist? Perhaps, but not only that, because the legs are crafted from turned wood. Upcycled, certainly! And even several times over! Someone didn't want to waste or burn this beautiful and very heavy piece of solid oak (the stool weighs about 9 kg!), and so transformed it into a stool by adding legs likely salvaged from another piece of furniture. Probably an unusable piece of furniture, destined for the landfill because in those days, nothing was thrown away, and certainly not turned wood legs that could still be used! And me, faced with a piece of oak with a large crack, a significant flaw, I chose to fill the gap with a mixture of wood glue and brass powder (a technique also used in woodturning) to add a touch of chic, elegance, to add a bit of sparkle to this raw wood, to enhance the surprising nature of this stool. Then I sanded the seat and applied a little antique wax to polish the wood and brass (but you can wax it from time to time to further enhance its colors and textures). The photos don't all do it justice; some were taken on a gray day, others on a brighter one. So here is a stool, very heavy, very stable, which can also serve as a side table or bedside table and add a natural and cozy touch to the room. And above all, a completely unique piece! It is in good overall condition, stable, and solid, but it doesn't hide the marks of time: one end of a leg was too worm-eaten, so I shortened all four (another touch of upcycling for another life), I filled a visible crack in one leg with wood filler, and there are various other signs of age and use. It measures 37 cm by 29 cm and is 35 cm high.
