Louis XV commode in solid oak, late 18th century – Loire Valley

This superb solid oak chest of drawers, dating from the late 18th century, beautifully illustrates the refinement of the Louis XV style. It opens with three drawers adorned with finely chiselled bronze fittings, featuring leaf motifs, in the pure rococo tradition. The moulded wooden top with an elegant corbin beak highlights the balance of the curved lines, while the feet end in volutes known as bigorneaux feet, typical of this period. Crafted by a cabinetmaker from the Loire Valley, this chest of drawers showcases exceptional craftsmanship. The careful selection of oak, the precision of the joints, and the delicacy of the proportions reflect the desire to create a piece of furniture that is both sturdy and harmonious, designed to last. Passed down from generation to generation, it has been preserved and maintained with care, traversing the centuries in remarkable condition. The chest of drawers has recently undergone gentle abrasive blasting, a handcrafted process that involves projecting a very fine natural abrasive at low pressure. This gentle method cleans the wood deeply without damaging it, revealing the beauty of the grain and the light hue of the oak while respecting the original patina. The three drawers have been cleaned and slide perfectly.
