This dutch chair from the 1940s/50s is absolutely unique. Special in every respect, including its shape and history. It is an ultimate example of minimalist and functional design, as dutch designers and furniture makers wanted during this period. Yet this chair does not really fit into a traditional chair category, this because of its historical purpose; in the 1940s-50s, this model was known as a ukg chair (ultra-short wave), because it was used in medical institutions for high-frequency electrotherapy treatments. This explains the shape of the chair and the materials used. The chair had to be completely metal-free (because of the ukg) and have removable armrests. The chair therefore had a plywood seat (glued - no screws), an ash wood base and smooth, chilly leatherette upholstery. Because ultra-short wave has long been replaced by better techniques, these chairs can only be found in some museums* and perhaps in a dusty hospital basement somewhere. * see physiotherapy history foundation. However, this copy has been "saved" and turned into a special object. Due to aging of the material/glue, some screws have been placed invisibly at the bottom of the seat. But what really makes the chair exclusive and gives it the necessary grandeur is the luxurious bouclé upholstery. This way, this chair can be preserved 'in style' and function as a special eye-catcher with a serious story. Dimensions. Width 67 cm / high 94 cm. Condition. Overall very good vintage condition with new! Upholstery.
