Beautiful tea set made in Japan, consisting of 6 extremely fine porcelain cups and saucers with sugar bowl and teapot/coffee pot. Each piece is decorated with a stunning blue and white design, consisting of seigaiha waves, a traditional Japanese motif, and cranes in flight. At the bottom of each cup, the eyes of the Geisha, follow you like those of the Mona Lisa! Lithophane geisha cups were made from the late 1800s until the 1950s. The cups are thin and the picture found on the bottom of the cup is created using a varying thickness of porcelain. Most of these porcelain cups are made in the Kutani region of Japan. The images above show what is commonly called a "unique geisha", with a classic Japanese hairstyle. In some versions, the geisha's hair is adorned with chopsticks, garlands, or flowers. In very good condition, except for a crack on a cup (see last photo) DIMENSIONS TEAPOT Height 13.5 cm Diameter without spout 13 cm Weight 546 gr SUGAR BOWL Height 9 cm Diameter without handles 9 cm Weight 238 gr CUPS Height 4.5 cm Diameter 8.5 cm Weight of a cup 43 gr SAUCERS Diameter 13 cm Weight of a saucer 78 gr.
