Mid-Century Modern "The Pair" Swedish Abstract Figurative Oil Painting by Hans Osswald, Unframed

A large and very unique mid century modernist oil composition of two figures, painted onto canvas. The artist has flattened the surface, reducing the figures down into planes of pastel colour, that fit together like a puzzle. The palette is restrained, using a range of light blues, greys and browns. To add depth to the picture, the painting is filled with these vertical patterns, that are almost like seams that open up to reveal layers of colour underneath. This very interesting composition is unframed but can be hung as is. The painting has some scattered craquelure, commensurate with age. The craquelure does not detract from the overall attractiveness of the piece. Size: 80 X 60.5 cm.
