19th Century Botanical Lithograph of Inga Ferruginea, c.1853.

Original 19th-century botanical lithograph depicting Inga ferruginea, a tropical flowering plant native to Brazil. The print originates from Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l’Europe, published in Ghent by Belgian horticulturist and publisher Louis van Houtte. First issued from 1845 onwards, the series became one of the most important illustrated horticultural publications of the 19th century, documenting newly introduced and cultivated plants from Europe and overseas. This plate dates from around 1853 and was produced as a botanical lithograph with coloured printing, combining scientific accuracy with the highly decorative presentation typical of Van Houtte’s publication. Professionally framed at Kunsthandel Het Grachthuisje in Lisse, the Netherlands, in a green and gilt wooden frame with wide off-white mount. The print itself is in very good antique condition. The frame shows some wear along the upper edge.
