Fabricius and Kastholm FK87 "Grasshopper" for Alfred Kill, Denmark, 1960s This is a classic "Grasshopper" lounge chair, model FK87, designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm in 1965. It was produced by Kill International in Germany and is distinguished by its characteristic curved profile and low position, giving it a relaxed yet assertive character. The frame is made of slightly patinated flat bar chrome steel. The seat and backrest are made of canvas, to which a removable leather cushion is securely attached. This version is upholstered in brown leather, still in very good condition, with no tears or snags. The leather cushion is suspended by straps and can be adjusted along the canvas backrest. A nice detail: the armrests are wrapped in beautifully patinated cognac leather, adding a tactile element and a subtle contrast with the steel frame. They provide just the right amount of grip and warmth to contrast with the steel frame. The shape of the chair invites you to lean back and stretch. It is clearly influenced by the functional minimalism of Danish modernism but also carries accents of Mies van der Rohe's steel furniture. Like many pieces by Kastholm and Fabricius, it combines industrial materials with natural elements without compromising comfort. This example retains all its original elements and is in very good condition, with signs of age on the canvas and slight wear on the leather, particularly at stress points near the edges of the cushion — visible in the detailed photos. Overall, it is a beautiful example of post-war European design that remains relevant, and it is included in several museum collections, including MoMA and the Vitra Design Museum. A collectible piece, a very good investment, and also an object to use. Dimensions Width: 72 cm Height: 82 cm
