This vintage oblong mirror, in an elongated oval shape known as "gousse, " embodies the decorative refinement of the 1940s-1950s. Very present in French interiors of the post-war period, it illustrates the transition between the elegance of Art Deco and the cleaner lines of modernism. Its elongated silhouette, visible suspension system, and especially its wide peripheral bevels make it a typical example of mirrors referred to as "tasselled." In the 1940s, these frameless mirrors, adorned with cords and decorative tassels, allowed for dressing walls with a textile and graphic touch while maintaining the purity of glass. The craftsmanship of the mirror is particularly refined: the wide, luminous bevels capture light and create a crystalline relief around the entire edge. The original tasselling, featuring twisted cord and two side tassels in shades of brown, grey, and silver, adds warmth and character to the whole. As is often the case with antique mirrors, the silvering shows some slight pitting, and the tasselling displays signs of wear, with a few missing threads and some damaged on the tassels. The mirror is currently suspended by its decorative cord, in accordance with its original mounting. If you prefer an invisible fixing, a support can be added to the back upon request.
