Pair of Brass and Amber Glass Floor Lamps from Kamenický Šenov, 1970s

Exceptional pair of Space Age floor lamps produced in Kamenický Šenov, Czechoslovakia, in the 1970s. Each lamp features a slender brass-plated metal column rising from a circular base and supporting a large spherical shade in richly colored amber bubble glass. The glass is characterized by numerous suspended air bubbles and organic variations inherent to its production, giving every globe an individual character and remarkable depth when illuminated. A broad polished brass band wraps around the center of each glass sphere, creating the distinctive Saturn-like silhouette that gives these lamps their strong Space Age character. The restrained vertical structure contrasts beautifully with the substantial sculptural glass shades. Kamenický Šenov has a long tradition of Bohemian glassmaking and lighting production, and this pair is an excellent example of the expressive decorative lighting produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1970s. The brass-plated metal surfaces have been carefully repolished while retaining their vintage character. Both lamps have been newly rewired and are fully functional. Each lamp takes one E26/E27 bulb and is compatible with US electrical systems.
